Antarctica From The Air
Visiting almost every clime on earth, this ninety-one year old traveler has now seen Antarctica. She saw it with her very own eyes, not in a magazine or on television. This was her first sighting of Antarctica, though she?d been to its continent two times prior. Though they never actually touched down, they did travel over the land.
She traveled over Antarctica for four hours time and saw fjords, glaciers and mountain peaks. For a better view, the pilot allowed the plane to descend to just about 300 feet above the ground. The plane’s passengers were able to see a mountain covered in fog.Clear skies and bright sun gave the flight perfect weather. Very cold air temps accompanied them, though the Antarctic summer was just coming to an end. The passengers were able to hear a continent researcher lecture during the flight. The 91 year-old really wished she could see penguins during her flight over Antarctica. Disappointingly, she was unable to see any. Her daughter, who was sitting at another window did spot a colony in the far distance. They took a ship which allowed them to visit the Falkland islands, just off the Argentine coast. She boarded yet another boat to get to the East Falkland Island. Hundreds of Magellan penguins live on one beach there. Of all the penguin species, Magellans are the tallest.
They flew over 16 hours from the United States to South America, where the cruise began. They visited many South American ports and then were asked if they?d like to swim in the ship?s pool. She did go swimming and was given a certificate for her bravery. The ninety-one year old ignored the thirty-five degree weather.
They finally flew into Rio, after having toured Santiago. The cruise ship docked in Chile. The cruise, which was three weeks long, had ideal weather. Even the difficult to find Southern Cross, the smallest constellation, was visible to all passengers. You can get the best best antarctic cruise information by visiting this website.
One big city and a major river were all this ninety-one year-old tourist had seen during her previous visit to South America. Seeing the loss of bird habitat in the area around the river is of great concern to our traveler. When visiting friends in Africa, she was able to go on Safari. Having already visited, she only needed to see Antarctica. She completed that collection with her recent trip to Antarctica.
